Camp Listings and Camp Fair
Every year, Houston Family Magazine hosts its Annual Houston Family Camp Fair and Summer Vacation Expo. The goal of Camp Fair is to expose area families and their children to various camp experts and vacation representatives. This enables Houston families to gather valuable information from exhibitors face-to-face in one central location and make important decisions for their children and family.
2011 was our busiest year yet, with over 60 exhibitors and several thousand families in attendance. 2012 will mark our 16th Camp Fair, and we are looking forward to it! This year, we’re expanding the event to include three different locations in order to be more accessible to our readers. Those locations and times are: Baybrook Mall (February 17, 3-7 pm); Memorial City Mall (February 18, 10am-4 pm); and The Woodlands Mall (February 19, 12-4 pm). Admission is free, and there will be prize drawings and free goodie bags provided.
Keep reading to learn about all the great camp experiences available for your child, and to find out which days and times they will be exhibiting at our Camp Fair so you can learn from the camp staff in person!

Combining traditional summer camp activities with visual and performing arts, Lantern Creek provides the best possible environment for campers to discover their strengths and grow through life-changing experiences.
We’ve thrown out the traditional rules of what every “well-rounded” girl should do, learn or know at camp. Our goal: to help her make her art, find her voice, discover her path and learn some emotional and life skills along the way. That’s why our programming spans everything from painting to gardening to singing to tire-changing. We believe she can do it all, or at least have the opportunity to try every bit of it for herself. We focus on teaching creative and critical thinking skills while allowing every camper to just be herself. Our art and theater programs are open to all skill and experience levels and are the perfect vehicle for fostering self confidence, self-esteem and leadership.

The best way to encourage children to try their best is with a smile. Thatʼs why, surprisingly, our teaching philosophy is quite different from others. We challenge children to strive for success in a positive, nurturing environment. Each new accomplishment promotes confidence and each successful experience motivates them to try for the next. Our coaching style is noncompetitive, which means children are encouraged to strive for their personal best.
With locations across the globe, The Little Gym has helped millions of children experience the benefits of this positive approach since our inception in 1976. Our programs have helped kids across the planet become more confident, readying them for new challenges with proud smiles on their faces. We see it every day. And soon, you will, too.

Skyland Camp for Girls
317 Spencer St
Clyde, NC 28721
(828) 627-2470
www.skylandcamp.com
Blue skies. Green forests. Smiling campers. Not much has changed since Skyland was first started in the early 1900s, and we love it that way. When Susan Courtney Harris purchased the property in 1916, she wanted to create a place where girls could escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and build new friendships and a stronger connection to the world around them.
Today, Susan Courtney Harris’s legacy lives on, as her own great-grandchildren are now Skyland’s directors. Our goal is simple and has remained unchanged. We want to create a home-like setting for young girls. We want to build their confidence and self esteem. We want to encourage them to try new things, make new friends, and enjoy the wonders of nature. Admission is limited to 85 girls, the better to serve the individual camper. Visit our website for photos, staff bios, and more.

mary@texassurfcamps.com

Our primary focus is on surfing instruction and practice. It is our goal to provide each camper with the confidence and knowledge to continue the great sport of surfing on his or her own after camp is over. For those who do not continue to surf, we hope that at the very least our camp will promote life long familiarity with the ocean and all it has to offer. And, of course, we strive to provide fun on the beach and in the ocean for all during our camp sessions.
In addition to instruction in surfing and related ocean sports, our activities will include beach and ocean games, education in ocean safety and awareness and marine biology, lessons in surf etiquette, competitive pointers, and plenty of fun on the beautiful beaches of Port Aransas, Corpus Christi and Galveston Island State Park (on the west end of the island near Jamaica Beach). Our program is designed for males and females ages 5 and up. Although most of our campers are between the ages of 5 and 18, we have had many campers in their 20’s and 30’s and moms and dads who have enjoyed the camp and learned to surf along with the kids. Visit our website to learn more!
