Puppy Problems
by Kim Davis Guerra
Last month, there was an adorable puppy under the tree. The red bow around his neck just melted your heart. This month, you’re ready to strangle something with that same bow! You thought you were adding an angel to the family, but he’s turned into a little devil.
Have no fear, you’re not alone. Many families—including ours—get a new pet only to discover that their four-legged bundles of joy are far more than they can handle. However, rather than give up our pet, we researched our options and found that a good trainer can make all the difference in the world.
We looked around, did our research, and even met with a couple of different companies. In the end, we made a choice based on location, company philosophy, and services available. Ultimately, we chose Houston Dog Ranch as the training ground for our puppy. Nestled on five acres in West Houston, this facility is incredible. Think of it as a doggie utopia, complete with cement pond, private condos, and humans that are there to cater to your dog’s every need.
Our bundle of joy’s name is Jasper. He is a gorgeous Catahoula with a playful personality and bounds of energy. He was prone to jumping, digging, and low self-esteem. He was eager to learn, but we just couldn’t seem to teach him. That’s where Houston Dog Ranch came into the picture.
In looking over the dog ranch’s services, we decided that puppy boot camp would best suit Jasper’s training needs. This 2-week stay offered the intense attention that Jasper required to give him the training he needed to fit into our household. Our trainer Abby explained that, in the course of Jasper’s two-week boot camp stay, she and the other trainers would be instilling the basic commands and behavior expectations necessary for a well-behaved family pet. Jasper learned “sit,” “stay,” “heel,” and “free” commands and was taught to behave much more calmly overall. Abby was very attentive to details in describing how the training would work, what it would entail, and what results we could expect, and she and Houston Dog Ranch delivered in a big way.
Jasper has been a transformed puppy since graduating from boot camp at the Ranch. I would highly recommend their services for anyone who is having difficulties with the newest canine addition to the family! Contact Tonia Whildon at Houston Dog Ranch, 713-408-9826, or visit houstondogranch.com.
