Start Making Plans to Travel to Aspen Before it’s too Late
by Kim Guerra
- Snowmass is located over 8,000 feet above sea level. Please be sure to drink LOTS of water to keep from becoming dehydrated.
- Altitude sickness is a real thing, especially for the little ones. Be on the lookout for nosebleeds, nausea and severe headaches. If this occurs, take head and hydrate, medicate and rest.
- If you have picky eaters, make a stop at Clark’s Market, the grocery store located in the village, for supplies. They have a fully stocked store with all of the essentials you are sure to need.
- No one flies direct to Aspen from Houston. Plan on a stop in Dallas or Denver for the best rates. Or, you can always drive. It’s about 1,200 miles.
- Visit www.aspensnowmass.com for seasonal specials and discounts on day passes and events.
- Kids Ski Free (ages 7-12) 1/1/19-4/21/19!
This summer, Bodhi and I traveled to Aspen, Colorado to visit the beautiful Snowmass Village. Located just 9 miles from downtown Aspen, Snowmass is consistently ranked among the best ski areas in the world for good reason. While there were no slopes to ski down while we were there, the mountain trails we saw no doubt offer magical skiing in the winter. As a matter of fact, there are 2.8 million acres adjacent to the village offering a wealth of activities and exploration!
While you may think summer is an odd time to visit Snowmass, the timing of our trip allowed us to accomplish two things that wouldn’t have been possible in winter—one, seeing the beauty of the summer in Colorado and experiencing some great warm weather activities, and two, getting an exclusive preview of the new Limelight Snowmass Hotel and Residences that are opening this November.
While Snowmass Village has been around for over 50 years, the area is currently under a multi-million dollar renovation to truly bring the village to life. With over 30 restaurants, 95% on-slope lodging, world-class shopping, and unique special events and music, this is a perfect destination for families who want to maximize their vacation by having everything right in their backyard.
The new Limelight will be the perfect place to stay close to all the new activities. It offers unfussy yet luxurious accommodations with 99 hotel rooms, an indoor/outdoor lounge, an incredible 5-story rock climbing wall, ski in/out access, and social programming to enjoy mountain activities. The hotel will also open up to the new public events plaza which features an ice skating rink and fire pits for all to enjoy. Check out www.allinsnowmass.com for more info.
If that sounds like a little more socializing than you are interested in, there are plenty of condos that you can rent at the beautiful Top of the Village as destination residences. They offer 2, 3 or 4 bedroom floorplans and are perfect for large groups interested in a “home away from home” feeling with the benefits of maid service!

Where to Eat
Venga Venga Cantina & Tequila Bar – Craving some great Mexican fare? This is the place. Not to mention the outdoor fire pits, panoramic mountain views, and 120+ tequilas!
Elk Camp – Elk Camp takes an elevated approach to casual on-mountain dining with abundant house-made seasonal options. Take a breather from the mountain at this awe-inspiring place. (Bodhi loved the “make your own” dessert bar – his choice was an ice cream cookie sandwich.)
The Artisan at the Stonebridge Inn – Yummy, casual gourmet dining experience with something for every palate. Nice cozy atmosphere with extensive wine list and great craft brews. Great place for the whole family to unwind from a busy day.
