Health & Wellness Week Brings Fun, Education and Local Sports Superstar to The Health Museum.
It’s all about getting your body moving! Health & Wellness Week is back at The Health Museum and it’s jam packed with tips, tricks and hands-on fun about getting your body in shape. And this year, the get moving message will be strengthened by our own sports superstars from the Houston Texans and a Houston Rockets Hall of Famer legend!
Science shows, hands-on experiments, mini fitness classes, art and crafts, snacks and health screenings for both kids and adults fill the week with knowledge to arm the community with smart choices and healthy habits.
Sponsored by Park Plaza Hospital, Health & Wellness Week is designed to teach kids and adults about working towards a healthier “you”. Childhood obesity has reached epidemic levels across the country. Children, as much as adults, need to have a clear understanding of the direct effect their everyday food and activity choices has on their body, both negative and positive, and Health & Wellness Week is a way to get kids and adults interested and active about their health.
Adding huge excitement to the week, the Houston Texans All Pro Cornerback Jonathan Joseph will lead visitors in an exercise clinic. The Houston Texans Cheerleaders will get everyone moving with a cheer routine that participants will perform for visitors, and the Houston Rockets will have fun basketball inflatables for visitors to enjoy! President and CEO, John Iszard said, “Getting kids pumped up about getting active and healthy is what it’s all about. Here at The Health Museum, our exhibits and programs express this message every day. And with great supporters of Health & Wellness Week, both kids and adults will see the endless positive possibilities that come with getting fit.”
Throughout the week, community partners and corporate sponsors will also be at the museum to create tasty, healthy eating options, conduct wellness checks, and demonstrate quick and easy exercise routines for museum guests.
The week continues with more brain food at UT Brain Night. On Thursday, March 14, from 6 – 8 p.m., visitors can take part in brain-y activities, see a real human brain and ask doctors about one of the body’s most fascinating organs. UT Brain Night is hosted by the UTHealth Neuroscience Research Center and is free to all museum visitors.
