If you’ve ever traveled without your children…

You’ve probably experienced some anxiety regarding their care in your absence. “Who’s going to look after my babies, if something happens to us,” my wife would always ask as we boarded our flight. My (typical male) response included some statistic about the safety of air travel, followed by the ever-so-pleasant “you know, we’re much more likely to die in a car accident.” This not only failed to calm her nerves, but also led to my own anxiety.

As important as it is to think about your child’s financial future, appointing a legal guardian – in the event of your death or incapacity – is even more critical. If you have minor children, naming a guardian for them is one of the most important considerations in your will. Your will is perhaps the most important legal document you will ever sign. Without one, the court decides what happens to your assets and your children.
