Hey, Houston! Macy’s has announced it is closing its downtown Houston location at 1110 Main Street.
Use this news to get in at the starting gate of the department store’s final clearance sale, starting Monday. The sale will run 7-11 weeks.
For Macy’s loyalists, take note that the company will close five of its Macy’s stores in the early spring. The only Texas location that will close is the 791,000-square-foot downtown store.
If you work at this Macy’s store, you should know that you and the other 138 associates may be offered positions at other stores in the city.

The downtown Houston store opened in 1947 as Foley’s.
And if you just can’t get enough of Macy’s, you will find it useful to know that the department store will open several new locations in 2013 and 2014, but none of them are in Texas. When all the changes are made, Macy’s will operate 798 stores in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Guam.
