Houston Family Magazine recently got the inside scoop on the 1,000-acre property and the incredible amenities it has to offer.

Owned and operated by three Houston families, Marci and Steve Alvis, Terri and John Havens, and Kim and Chuck Watson, Houston Oaks has left no stone unturned and no corner unexplored to ensure members receive the luxury retreat they have been looking for.

Originally a 1950’s recreational getaway for families of Tenneco Oil and Gas employees, the new owners came together and decided to make Houston Oaks into the modern escape of the fourth largest city in the United States.

Welcome

The grand entryway welcomes members and their guests with its breath-taking old-world charm. From floor to ceiling, the European antique details of the décor and lighting greet just as you would find in a palace of a faraway land. The handcrafted reclaimed wood pieces mixed with more than 15 fireplaces from around the world that were collected and meticulously places throughout the clubhouse immediately free your mind from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The main building houses many of the luxurious features including the men and women’s lounges and locker rooms, a wine cellar, cigar room, state-of-the-art gym and spa, the main dining room and patio that overlooks the incredible negative edge pool and main pond.

Dining

The décor, ambiance and lavish landscaping are just the beginning for Houston Oaks. Their farm-to-table dining options allow members to feast on upscale country classics by using ingredients from their own sustainable garden and aquaponics greenhouse on the property. They cultivate organic produce through a sophisticated food production system, leaving guests with a cleansed palate of the freshest foods.

Their menus change seasonally and dining extends beyond the main dining room to their additional eateries such as the Park House, Sunset Grill and Gun Club Bistro. .

Amenities

The lavish amenities on the property not only appeal to the adults. Houston Oaks prides itself on incorporating kid-friendly activities to ensure every member of the family benefits. The newly Chet Willimans redesigned 18-hole golf course features junior tee boxes as well as adult and lady tee boxes. In addition, families can play the Family Nine golf course for a shorter game. Houston Oaks is also home to one of the only accommodating children’s tennis courts, where special shorter lines have been created for children who love the game. They have a baseball field, sand volleyball, several playgrounds, one of the largest family tree-houses for overnight stays, a skeet and archery range, 15 stocked ponds for fishing, kayaking and paddle boarding. During the summer the kids can enjoy a wide variety of summer camps including archery, horseback riding, fishing camps, tennis, culinary and many more.

Lodging

For a complete Houston Oaks experience, members can take advantage of the several different luxury lodging options with the ability to sleep 120 members each night. With cottages, ranch homes, tree house and 12-room Boutique Hotel, ranging from 1,300 square feet to 6,600 square feet, families and friends can spend the weekend enjoying one another’s company while taking pleasure in the properties amenities.
