Moving to a new city means you have to recreate your go to list of services. Who should you trust as your primary care physician? What dentist, daycare, or soccer league should you sign the kids up for? And for me, another important one was who will cut my hair and do my nails?
I was excited to learn that I was not the only newbie in town! Marilyn Monroe Spas is also calling Houston home with their recent opening in The Woodlands. From massages, fassages, nails, waxing and hair, this one stop shop will bring out the inner Marilyn Monroe in anyone who walks in. If you have been holding out for an ultimate “ME” day, I found your spot!
I started my day calling them from the river walk, for I have no sense of direction at all and was completely lost! The receptionist came out of the salon, walked down the river walk and literally escorted me to the salon. I was a bit embarrassed but extremely impressed at the level of customer service! The moment I walked in, I couldn’t believe the décor. I mean, Marilyn Monroe always had exceptional taste, and it definitely felt like she picked out every piece in there. From the glamorous chandelier in the entryway, to the chic nail chairs and 8 ft murals of her beautiful face, every detail was well thought out. They even had Marilyn’s playlist of her favorite songs in every area of the place!
I started my day at the spa with a 25 minute massage. I was so worried that it wouldn’t be long enough for all the kinks I needed worked out having moved 1400 miles to a new city. I found my way to a changing room where I was able to lock up my personal belongings, hop into a comfy robe and slippers, and relax in the back room before jumping on the massage table.
The massage itself was amazing. I was asked what areas needed more attention so that he could focus on those. My shoulders, neck and hands were my problem areas and let me tell you, I felt like a new woman when it was over and it was the perfect amount of time.
I was most nervous about my hair cut. I have short hair and very seldom does a hairdresser get my cut right. I wanted it a bit shorter than normal so it would be easier to manage in this new wet heat that I haven’t been used to. Amanda did an excellent job. I liked that she cut most of it after it was dry so she could see exactly where the pieces fell. I also have pretty thick hair on the sides and she used the thinning sheers so it would fall into place the way I like it. She couldn’t have done a better job!
The only thing missing once I left was not walking out with the iconic white dress Marilyn is so famously known for. Aside from that, I certainly felt like my inner Marilyn was shining right through me. I look forward to coming back and bringing my mother-in-law in for some much deserved pampering.
