Located just south of the Memorial Park Golf Course, this zip code is home to Houston’s River Oaks, Avalon Place and Hyde Park neighborhoods. It’s long, horizontal shape extends into downtown Houston, where residents can enjoy fine dining, great shopping and plenty of musical entertainment. Of course, living so close to the city’s exclusive downtown area comes at a price, specifically $238 per square foot. Several homes located in this zip code sell for more than $1 million. But for that price, homeowners get some of the best home security Houston has, as well as some of the most beautiful architecture in the entire city.

Houston residents in the 77030 zip code live right in the midst of all the excitement and action. This zip code is located right next to the Houston Zoo, the MD Anderson Cancer Center and is just south of Rice University. The median price per square foot is $226 in Windermere and Southgate, the area’s two main neighborhoods.

Based right between Upper Kirby and Midtown, the 77098 area of Houston contains such neighborhoods as Winlow Place and Chevy Chase. The median price per square foot is $225. It is not unusual for homes to be listed for more than $700,000. Benefits of living in this neighborhood include quick access to the acclaimed Lamar High School and the beautiful Levy Park.

Just west of the 77098 zip code described above, 77027 contains several neighborhoods with names boasting of oak trees. These include Oak Estates, Afton Oaks and Royden Oaks. Nearby attractions include the Memorial Park Golf Course, the River Oaks Country Club and the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center. The price tag for all this? Expect to pay around $228 per square foot.

A larger zip code area located on the northwest side of Houston, 77024 boasts some of the fanciest and most expensive homes. The median price per-square-foot in this area is a cool $244. Several neighborhoods are nestled within the 77024 zip code, including Whispering Oaks, Frostwood, Fonn Villas and Memorial Forest. Transportation is simple, with Interstate 10 and Highway 90 bordering the zip code to the north, as well as several buses offering public transit throughout the area.

Last but certainly not least on the list of pricey zip codes is 77005, a southwest area that includes such neighborhoods as West University Place, Southampton Place and Southside Place. The median cost per square foot in this zip code is $264. The size of homes can vary, but many span over 4,000 square feet. Although these homes are on the pricey side, their proximity to good school, beautiful parks and other excellent amenities makes the investment more than worthwhile.
