Hello Spring…We’ve been waiting for you!

It’s April, and we are off and running our way through 2019!  For starters, Houston Family Magazine went “Wild” in Galveston for our April issue. We had a blast spending the day with our Galveston partners and a few of our HFM Kid Ambassador team. A huge shout out to the fantastic Amanda Compton Photos www.amandacomptonphotos.com, who spent the day on a boat and in a lagoon to help us capture where the wild things roam. Our sincere thanks go out to Capt. Shane Cantrell from Galveston Sea Ventures and Capt. Greg Ball with Wave Dancer Charters for taking Ambassadors Conrad and Nathan out for a day of fishing in Galveston Bay.

A special thanks to the Galveston Island Nature Tourism Council (GINTC) for arranging our very own birding experts–Sharon Duray and Don Wilkerson. They gave our younger Ambassadors, Logan, Kaeli, Michael, Sarai and Elvis, a lesson on how to use binoculars and scopes to spot Galveston’s tiniest, most treasured species of birds! We ended the day chasing seagulls, playing in the sand, finding cool seashells…and the kids left as friends!

I can’t say it enough…one of the biggest joys is exploring this great big city and its surroundings through the eyes of a child!  I learn so much from them every time we get together!  The best part is there’s so much more to come and more Kid Ambassadors to introduce to you. Speaking of our amazing kid team, Corey’L Sams and I attended a pretty amazing fashion show at The Village School where the students were the designers and producers of the show. Watch for this story coming soon on our website. Also, Ambassador Lizzie Tyer had an exclusive interview with Society of Performing Arts’ Finding Neverland’s local cast member Paul Schoeller. The show comes to Houston this month. Don’t miss it.

April is Autism Awareness month, and I’m ever so proud to include a guest feature from one of my dearest friends, Brooke Baumer. Her journey with her amazing daughter, Emory, is so genuine. I continue to be inspired by Brooke, Emory and everyone along the way who are transparent while living their best life…no matter the circumstances!

Speaking of inspiring people, check out our Mom.Me this month – Keri Henry. This energetic mom gained national attention with her “do-it-yourself” relief efforts during the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. This savvy communicator, entrepreneur, and life-loving lady is using everything she’s learned to manage her biggest mission to fund a cure for her niece who suffers from a rare genetic disorder. We’re cheering her along! We adore her and think you will too!

This month, we’re paying attention to the environment. Find a way to do your part, too!  Support community efforts to clean up and beautify your community. Shop for environmentally-friendly products, dig in the dirt, plant a garden! Check out our calendar for Earth Day activities and events. Post your pics on our facebook page or tag us (#hfmkids) on Instagram for a chance to win prizes and passes for upcoming events!

Cheers!
