The Sam Houston Area Council (SHAC) Boy Scouts of America is now inviting both boys and girls to join the Cub Scouts (grades kindergarten – 5th grade). With the school year beginning, SHAC welcomes all families to participate in Cub Scouts, a program renowned for character-building fun and adventure. Scouting embraces helping Southeast Texas area communities through service projects, STEM development and building confidence through a wide range of activities.
Families can now choose to sign up their sons and daughters for Cub Scouts. Each Cub Scout den will be single gender – all boys or all girls. However, Cub Scout packs can include any combination of all-boy or all-girl dens. This unique approach allows the organization to maintain the integrity of the single-gender model while also meeting the needs of today’s families.
“The Sam Houston Area Council is excited to welcome both boys and girls into Cub Scouting,” states Tom Varnell, CEO and Scout Executive of SHAC. “After all, the values of Scouting – being trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent – are relevant and important for all children. We know families are busier than ever with prior commitments, so it’s great to offer an inclusive program for everyone at the same time.”
“For years, families in Southeast Texas have seen how the program builds character and teaches our kids valuable skills and life lessons that prepare them for success,” said Tom Varnell. “The Cub Scout program is designed to make important life lessons, such as physical fitness, problem-solving and emotional growth, fun and memorable for children and families. We’re very excited to make this program available for all.”
In Southeast Texas, Cub Scout registration events will be hosted over the coming weeks across the region. Please visit www.beascout.scouting.org for more details.
