Houston Family Magazine introduces DJ Forrest Houston Award-Winning DJ, Music Producer, and Remix Artist

Tell me a little bit about yourself and the journey that’s brought you to the release of your new song  “Level Up.”

The love of music runs in my family, from music playing in our home where almost everyone played different instruments. At the age of ten, while attending a family wedding, I noticed the deejay was not connecting with guests. His choice of music led everyone to leave the dance floor. From that moment on, I was intrigued and wanted to learn more about being a deejay. Side note: I remember requesting the song “Send Me an Angel,” and he ignored me. In the fall of 2019, I remixed “Send Me an Angel” as a fun tribute to this story! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOnF1qQDOdw

In sixth grade, I joined the band and played clarinet and bass clarinet. In high school, I created and sold mixtapes from my home computer (when CD’s were all the rage)! I also created music using “MTV Music Generator” and “Mario Paint” while dreaming of making original music one day.

My career began in 1998 when I started training and working with two top local deejays. I also joined some organizations to network with others in the business. I began deejaying at teen parties. In 1999, I started my company, Xceptional DJs (Now Xceptional DJs + Photobooths), and within a few years, I worked my way up to weddings, corporate events, and nightlife events, while adding team members along the way.

After performing thousands of events for celebrities, Fortune 500 companies, and top nightlife spots for more than 20 years, I am proud to have earned A+ BBB rating and achieving status as “1 of 3 top-rated Houston DJs” in 2018 and 2019.

At the beginning of 2019, I began to focus on music production and launched my social media presence on Instagram and business DJ Forrest Houston Facebook pages. top-rated, I wrote and published the book “Mobile DJ Handbook.”

How does your new release “Level Up” compare to your previous work?

The success of the “Release feat. Jaycee” and “Terminator” helped me reach number one on the Houston EDM Regional ReverbNation charts in August of 2019. I wanted to create something unique, mixing hip hop and EDM, so “Level Up” was born!  The official video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3aOJTb2UHw features artist Dezi Dior, with Anarchy Armada Records, and the top local producer Ace Devine.  I also had the great fortune to collaborate with Something New Dance in Houston and Heavyweight Musik to create a fun music video at Social Beer Garden.

Looking ahead, what can people expect from DJ Forrest Houston in the future? We hear there may be an album in the works.

That’s certainly possible! This year, I intend to release three more original tracks along with at least two more remixes. Creating remixes and working with talented producers, artists, and people is my ultimate passion!
