The Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Houston SPCA) was established in 1924, and is one of the leading animal rescue and protection organizations in the country. They help more than 40,000 animals each year, including cats and dogs; horses and farm animals; small pets, native wildlife and even exotics. They are a private, non-profit charity, funded entirely by donations, and receives no funding from the government, United Way or other animal groups.
