Why Camp Fair Is A Must

by Wendy Slaton

With so many choices when it comes to overnight camps, where do parents begin the search? It’s estimated there are more than 7,000 camps to choose from in the U.S. So, we start scouring the internet to find photos and videos to narrow down the list. While this is a great place to start, it still doesn’t answer some of your questions about how this camp and your child will be a good fit. Many parents send their kids wherever their kids’ friends have gone without investigating other options. Although this is a great option, what may be good for one child, may not be the best fit for your child. So, the best option is to get in front of camp advisors at a Camp Fair!

Here are a few good reasons to visit Camp Fair:
• One stop shopping – where you spend time talking with camp advisors about what they have to offer!
• The opportunity to explain what your family’s expectations are when considering an overnight camp for your child. You should be able to tell within minutes of initiating a conversation with a director whether it is a camp you want to consider further.
• For those not quite ready for the overnight experience, this is a great time to start exploring the camps that host “Family Camp Weekends.” This is an excellent way to introduce the overnight camping experience.
Schedule tours – while this may not be available for all camps, you should ask about visiting with your family to find out about the facilities, staff, etc.
