Spotlight: Lupe Palacios

It’s National Read A Book Day…and HFM spotlights Lupe Palacios, MLS Librarian, Frazier Elementary in Pasadena ISD

Here’s what she had to say…

Book lovers are created on the laps and in the arms of older, ahem – experienced, book lovers! I work with littles (ages four to ten) at a local elementary school. No matter the age, these children would much rather listen to a story than watch another video on YouTube. The book you read does not need to be a classic or award-winning book; anything will do! Children crave the closeness, time, attention, and lyrical language that is shared with read aloud books.

My favorite newer authors include Mac Barnett, author of The Greedy Triangle, I Love You Like a Pig, and many more. Mac gets his inspiration from, gasp, real children! I Love You Like a Pig may not make sense to adults, but children find the comparison funny and genuine. This book is a great way to start new word play in your home, “I love Sammy like a hot dog because…” I think you and your littles will enjoy Mac and even better, you can meet him in person at Blue Willow Bookshop this month! Be sure to tell him that I love him like a warm blanket!

Meet Mac Barnett, author of MAC UNDERCOVER at Blue Willow Bookshop on Tuesday, Sept. 11., his first book in his new series called MAC B. KID SPY.
