Microwave ovens have been around since the late 40’s. The concept back then and now is pretty much the same – you put a food item in it, press a button or two and wait for the bing sound. But what you probably didn’t know was how many helpful things your microwave can do other than reheating leftovers.
Here’s a few.
1. Prevent Onion Tears
Chop off the ends of an onion and microwave them for 30 seconds.
2. Restore Crystallized Honey
Remove the lid and heat on 50% power for about 2 minutes.
3. Unclump Brown Sugar
Place a small dampened paper towel in the box, close it tightly and microwave for 20 seconds.
4. Get More Juice From Your Lemons and Limes
Microwave a lemon or lime on high power for 10-20 seconds then cut and squeeze.
5. Harden Your Soft Bread
Wrap a piece of bread in a damp kitchen towel and microwave on high in 10 second bursts. Check after each burst.
6. Harden Your Soft Potato Chips
Similar to bread. Place the chips on a paper towel and microwave in 5 second bursts.
7. Remove Postage Stamps From Envelopes
Place a couple of drops of water on a stamp, microwave for 20 seconds and the stamp will come off without damage.
8. Quickly Clean A Microwave After A Food Explosion
Heat a glass bowl full of water with a small amount of vinegar for 5 minutes. Then wipe with a paper towel.
