This winter break students are invited to get warm and furry at Houston SPCA’s Winter Critter Camp as they discover what is behind the rescue, care and science of animals. Offered for two weeks from 9 a.m. to 3p.m. for children in 2nd through 8th grade, the animal-centered curriculum features new themes, as well as favorites from Summer Critter Camp!
Houston SPCA’s Winter Camp Dates & Themes:
Week One:
Dec. 19 Critter Communication: Study animal behavior and learn how they communicate through body language.
Dec. 20 Vet Science: Discover, hands on, what it takes to be a veterinarian and explore the medical issues that can plague pets and the remedies to help them.
Dec. 21 Pet Care 101: Understand basic pet care principles and how to be a responsible pet owner.
Dec. 22 Texas Wildlife: Encounter the wild side of Texas while learning from experts about native and migratory species.
Dec. 23 Winter Pet Safety: Learn basic pet care tips and how to them safe through the winter season.
Week Two:
Dec. 26 Voice for the Voiceless: Make an impact for animal friends through advocacy.
Dec. 27 Down on the Farm: Experience farm life by interacting with barnyard animals and learning about their proper care.
Dec. 28 Career Day: Learn about important and lifesaving jobs that animals help humans with every day.
Dec. 29 Pets around the World: Explore animals from around the world and learn about pets in different countries.
Dec. 30 Animal Rescue: Discover how the Houston SPCA rescues animals every day and what can be done to support the lifesaving work.
