Jasmine Al-Ayadhi’s 9 year old daughter Reem was humiliated and teased by her classmates for having an embarrassing accident in class and then for having to wear boy shorts that the school gave her to change into.
The reason why the 3rd grader had the accident is because she didn’t want to pay $50 (play) dollars to the teacher to use the restroom.
Her teacher created a “reward game” that allows students to earn money by doing good things in class and the money could then be used to buy things such as Pizza, snacks and restroom passes.
“When it comes to using the bathroom, having to hold her pee, and if she wants to use the bathroom, you make a choice,” Al-Ayadhi said. “OK, if you want to use the bathroom it’s going to cost you $50, but then you don’t have money to buy popcorn. What do you think a child’s going to do?”
A spokesperson for the school district told local news ‘We’re never going to prevent a child who is in an emergency situation from going to the bathroom. We don’t want the children to have accidents. We don’t want the children to have health and safety issues and so that’s part of that investigation is how the procedure is being done.”
The teacher at Mil Plain Elementary School did not face any discipline and the mother said her daughter would not be returning to the school.
