This Houston family loves water sports and has found creative ways to get her kids involved! Her two year old wake boards!!
Name: Crystal Hurta
Occupation: School Counselor
Kids: Brock (6), Clair (2)
HFM: Tell us about your fun hobby:
CH: My husband Bruce and I have been together for 23 years. I have always been active in watersports from the age of 6. We wake board, wake surf, barefoot, slalom, and kneeboard.
HFM: How did you daughter first get interested?
CH: This summer, Clair saw Brock on the surfboard with me and told my husband she was going with mommy. To my surprise, she actually got in the water and I had no clue how it was going to go. She was familiar with water safety due to her swimming lessons. I put her between my legs and we started off and she wouldn’t stop laughing and dancing while we were on the board. I felt confident in my ability because my 6 year old rides on the board with me too.
HFM: It looks scary! What would you say to other moms who might be nervous to try something like this?
CH: Yes, I would say other moms would be scared to try this. It is hard to do for sure and by the time I am through riding with the kids on the board with me, I am exhausted. Not to mention, I am an older mom too. I am 45 with two young children. We started later in life.
HFM: How do you think doing things together has helped your relationship?
CH: Clair absolutely loves to surf and always wants to go to the river. She talks about surfing everyday and even goes up to strangers and tells them she surfs with mommy. I am so happy that both of my children share this passion like I do and always have growing up. I love being able to give them memories that will last their lifetime.
