Fine dining at great prices and all for a good cause. Yes, it’s Houston Restaurant Weeks! This is a time where restaurants in our area offer special menus at a set price, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Houston Food Bank.
We know finding a sitter to have a date night isn’t always ideal, so we wanted to share our top seven restaurant picks that are family or kid friendly!
1. Downtown Aquarium:
Kids love the surroundings of the Downtown Aquarium. Enjoy the giant tanks full of colorful fish and other wildlife! After dinner take them on a ferris wheel ride overlooking downtown.
2. Preggo
This upscale italian restaurant knows how to cater to kids. The kid menu features pizza and pasta. They have crayons and coloring books. This will keep the kids occupied for at least a few minutes while you enjoy dinner.
3. Alamo Drafthouse Cinema (2 locations)
Each Houston Restaurant Weeks meal purchased includes a movie ticket for later. (it’s like 2 date nights for one!) The cool theatre atmosphere will keep the kids in their chairs. They also offer bottomless popcorn with the food. Yes, please!
4. The Melting Pot
The concept of this restaurant alone will keep the kids engaged! The Fondue type of meal with dipping breads and crackers into various dips is ideal for kids! The Restaurant Weeks prices will give you a nice discount from the regular price menu.
5. The Grove
This restaurant is located near Discovery Green, the huge green space right in downtown Houston. There is a playground, huge running area and even a splash pad if you dare.
6. Shade
We picked Shade for menu and the great location along 19th street in the Heights. There are little antique shops and an ice cream parlor nearby, so you can make an entire afternoon of dinner and walking around with the family.
7. Rainbow Lodge
The Rainbow Lodge will remind your kids of a big, giant tree house. The historic lodge in the Heights area is a fun atmosphere for the family!
Restaurant Weeks runs from August 1 to September 7th. Last year $1.6 million dollars was raised! Harris, Montgomery and Galveston county restaurants are taking part and the money raised goes right back into local food banks.
