This week, our city is welcoming 700 student teams, made up from 15,000 student competitors, ages 6 – 18, from 40-plus countries and all over the U.S. for the FIRST Championship. This free/open-to-the-public event is the culmination of more than 3,000 qualifying competitions around the world. Through early access to hands-on learning (in the form of heart-pounding, sports-like robotics matches), FIRST is using robotics to empower students to pursue STEM education and create pathways to successful careers. The event will be held April 17-20 at the George R. Brown Convention Center and Minute Maid Park.
