A Guide to Family Camping at Texas Renaissance Festival

photos by Pop of Color Photography

The threat of rain loomed in the sky, but over the Fields of New Market Campground the clouds were making way for a beautiful sunset. The Houston Family Magazine Kid Ambassadors and their families made their way to the empty campground to check out the cabins and bonfire. Any day, this same campground would come alive with season pass move ins and the arrival of the first weekend festival campers.

Situated on 200 acres adjacent to the Texas Renaissance Festival grounds, the Fields of New Market Campground is utilized by over 20,000 patrons per season. Participants of all types including tent campers, RV and trailer enthusiasts take advantage of the campground amenities including two convenience stores, permanent and portable restrooms, showers, bonfires, live music and nightly performances.

If pitching a tent or pulling a trailer isn’t your thing, the campground offers a limited number of air-conditioned cabins and glamping opportunities for a minimum of two and up to four guests. What better way to enjoy the festival!

I know what you’re thinking. It’s just a big after party out there on the campgrounds. Not true! What you might not know about the campgrounds, is that there is an area specifically for families with children. Benefits include quiet camping areas and a separate bonfire that will host entertainment and kid-friendly activities on Saturday evenings.

As you’re planning your visit to the festival, be sure to visit the “For Kids” page under “Things to Do” on the newly redesigned webpage at www.texrenfest.com. Please note when reviewing performers that there are certain shows that are marked for Mature Audiences only.

The 2019 season opens on October 5 and runs through December 1, open Saturdays and Sundays and Thanksgiving Friday. Nine themed weekends are sure to delight visitors of all ages!

Camping passes are per vehicle and are $25 online (plus fees and taxes) or $35 at the gate. Remember, you must also hold a general admission ticket per person as the camping pass does not include festival entry. Children 4 and under are always admitted free, and kids 12 and under get in free EVERY Sunday! You can purchase your camping passes and tickets or make cabin and glamping reservations by visiting www.texrenfest.com. We hope to see you all there!
