5 Ways to Refresh Your Front Porch

5 Ways to Refresh Your Front Porch. Summer will soon be upon us and the warmer weather calls for more time spent outside when it’s not smothering hot. Perhaps, you haven’t gotten around to refreshing your outdoors living space, check out these easy ways to refresh your front porch for an enjoyable summer season.

If your porch is looking particularly drab and dirty, consider pressure washing it before you do anything else. Pressure washing may seem like a waste of time but you will be amazed at the difference a good pressure washing can do to brighten up the wood on your porch. Not only does it clear away the dirt but it also can clear off chipped paint as well. Pressure washing is a good way to see areas of your porch that will need some touch-up paint or repair as well.

Add a Door Decoration
If you want to add direct color or update a staple item, replace your old front door with a new one. This is one of many exterior upgrades that can increase resale value. However, one of the least expensive ways to freshen up your front porch is to change out the decoration on your door. There are many different options available including wreaths and banners. A simple wreath for every season is a great way to reflect the upcoming holidays as well as attract attention to your home. Wreaths don’t need to be flowers but could be covered in ribbons, artificial flowers, or branches as well. If wreaths or banners aren’t your cup of tea, consider putting the first initial of your last name on the door to personalize your front porch space.

Add Some Color
There is nothing that freshens up a front porch quicker than adding pops of color to it. Simply placing a few planters on your porch with bright seasonal flowers is a great way to add a touch of interest to your home. Another great way to add color would be to add a quick coat of paint to the furniture on your front porch. Consider painting an old rocking chair a dark cherry red or even a bright teal color. Make sure to match your added accent colors on the porch to somewhat match your home’s color so that it doesn’t clash too much.

Refresh Surrounding Greenery
Plants can easily get overgrown and out of control during the summer season. Help to refresh your front porch by trimming and tending to the surrounding plants. Refresh the lawn surrounding the walkways and create a hard edge near the landscaping. Weed around those plants that border your porch and consider cutting a few flowers from mature bushes to add some beauty to the inside of your home. Prune your plants that are showing disease or are unsightly from continuous insect damage.

Update the Hardware
Another great way to freshen up your front porch is to replace the current hardware. Consider changing out the light fixtures for an updated and more modern look. Replace the light bulbs in your fixtures to energy efficient options to brighten your space as well.

Change your house numbers with a set that is easier to recognize from the street and consider adding a light to those as well so that it is easy to spot at night. Replacing the hardware on your door is another way to instantly change up the look of your front porch as well.

Choosing to refresh your front porch will encourage those in your household to go outdoors and use your outdoor living space on a more regular basis. Freshen up your front porch area by pressure washing it first then adding pops of color and a new door decoration to attract attention. Updating the hardware along your porch is another great way to add interest to your home and brighten up the space for year-round use.
