Fall In Love With Thrifting

by Corey’L Sams | HFM Kid Ambassador

Thrifting is a great way to save money on clothing and still look like a million bucks even though you probably spent less than $20. I started thrifting more often in the summer of 2018 and have absolutely loved it! I have found different name brands and trending clothing for inexpensive prices! I love thrifting because each time I walk into the store I have a chance to find something great. You never know what you will end up with when you leave the store. That’s the fun of it for me!

Since I’ve been thrifting for the past year, here are some tips to help you get started on your discount shopping experience.

The unique jean jacket was from Willowbrook Plato’s Closet for $12. One of my favorite finds!

KNOW YOUR STYLE

When you walk into the thrift store, it can be overwhelming with all the rows of clothing and so many options to choose from. If you know your favorite styles, you can save time and money because you will already know which rows or sections are not your best pick. When you know the look you want, you can walk into the thrift store with confidence focused on the kind of apparel you want to buy.

DON’T GIVE UP

Do not give up on thrifting just because nothing catches your attention. There have been a few times where I have walked out of a thrift store with absolutely nothing. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again!

This top was $16 and the Van’s were $26 from Buffalo Exchange! I was so happy about these finds that I was jumping off the wall!!

MAP OUT YOUR JOURNEY

Before you head out on your shopping spree, research and find the best thrift stores with the best deals. If you are interested in finding a new place to thrift, searching on the internet and looking at different reviews can help you make a decision about which stores to check out. Overall, if you follow these three tips it can make your thrifting experience all the better!

Though I may be biased, I believe Houston is one of the best cities for thrifting. There are so many different options and types of thrift stores including modern, vintage, retro, and even country style thrift stores! Some of my favorite thrifting hotspots in the Houston area include Willowbrook Plato’s Closet (I am the brand ambassador for this store), Buffalo Exchange, and Flamingo’s Vintage Pound. I have found so many thrifting steals from these stores and others this summer and am so ready to start this upcoming school year with style.
