Tell us a little about yourself? Where you grew up?
I was born and raised in Texas. I grew up in Friendswood, TX then lived in California for college before moving back to my Houston roots!
Anything you want to share about “being a mom?” Challenges? Funny stories? Running a business while running between work and school activities?
I love being a Mom so much! It is the most important job I have ever had. Of course, running a business with a two-year-old at home requires me to use the time I have very efficiently. I get my work done during nap-time and late at night and my son is always happy to play at a park nearby with Daddy while I go out for a shoot.
There have definitely been days that my little guy was sick or teething and just needed me more and I have adjusted my schedule accordingly for him. It always works out somehow! I just have to be flexible. It’s good for me as a Mom to get to continue to express myself as an artist! I’m grateful I am able to pursue my passion while also being a Mommy.
What kind of photography do you do?
I am a natural light, portrait photographer. At Jenna Duncan Photography, I photograph couples, families, children, newborns and High School seniors.
What was your favorite photoshoot ever? Or one you are most proud of?
Honestly, I love them all! I adore meeting new families. I just recently had a session at a park where a new family of ducklings had hatched and I was able to get some really sweet photos of the kids feeding the ducklings.
I also love engagement sessions because I get the rare opportunity to capture the love and excitement of this special chapter in a couples life.
I will say however, Lifestyle Newborn sessions have my heart!! Getting to work with a newborn in their first few days of life and capture all of their precious features along with the deep affection of their parents towards them is like no other!
If you could choose a destination to photograph, where would that be?
I love photographing in Houston. There are so many beautiful places that go unnoticed! Outside of Houston, I would love to shoot in Banff, Canada! The water, mountains and trees are absolutely stunning out there!
Whose work has influenced you most?
I have learned from so many wonderful artists. Katelyn James, Jennefer Wilson & Neva Michelle are three natural light photographers that have really influenced my style.
What inspires you?
I love nature, trees, flowers, wildlife, smiles, sunshine and laughter! I draw my inspiration for art and photography from all of these elements!
How would you describe your photography style?
I am a lifestyle photographer which, to me, means that I aim to capture real-life interactions between families and couples in a beautifully artistic manner. I encourage my clients to play, laugh and interact naturally with each other while I will also step in to help position them in the right light or angle when necessary.
If you could photograph any one person or subject matter, who/what would it be?
Just give me all the precious families and sweet little newborns! I absolutely love photographing them all!
What is your favorite aspect of your career?
I love meeting new families, babies, couples and High School Seniors. Having the honor of freezing time and creating images that will bring joy to my clients at Jenna Duncan Photography for many years to come is so rewarding!
