In her October TED Talk, “3 fears about screen time for kids – and why they’re not true,” Sara DeWitt, VP of PBS KIDS Digital addresses the three common parental fears:
· Screens are passive and will keep our kids from getting up and moving
· Playing games on screens is a waste of time and will distract children from their education
· Screens are isolating parents from children
Sara challenges the current attitude around screen time and child development. She talks about her hope for future uses of screens in learning and education, how they can tell us more about a child’s abilities than a standardized test can tell us, and how they have the power to prompt real life conversations between kids and parents.
