Do you know a talented young poet who’s passionate about civic and community engagement? This free city-wide competition is open to all poets ages 14 – 19 who believe in transforming Houston’s communities through the power of their voices. The selected honoree will receive a scholarship, publication and public appearances, and can compete to become the National Youth Poet Laureate. This program is hosted by Writers in the Schools (WITS) in partnership with the City of Houston Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs and the Houston Public Library. Applicants may apply from the following eligible cities: Houston, Katy, Spring, Sugar Land, Pasadena, Pearland, Baytown, Humble, and The Woodlands.
