Put Bedwetting to Bed

bedwettingThe best treatment for bedwetting, and the only one shown by research to cure the problem, is a device called the “bell and pad” device, according to Ehrin Weiss, Ph.D.  Weiss, a Houston-based clinical psychologist specializing in family psychology, says this innovative approach involves the child’s wearing an alarm that wakes him as soon as it detects an accident. It can be purchased online without a prescription.

“Research shows that with other methods (including medication) only about 15% of kids are dry after a year,” Weiss reports. “But with the bell and pad 70-80% are dry after a year.

“Of course the first step is always ruling out medical causes,” Weiss continues.  “But this device has been a huge help to families I’ve worked with once medical causes are ruled out.
