Houston's Largest Family Owned Company Celebrates 50th Anniversary With A Book Giveaway

For the past 50 years, Houston’s largest family owned company – John Moore – has been helping homes with A/C, electrical and plumbing emergencies.  To celebrate their half a century of success, they wanted to give back to the community that made them a success.

On May 15, 2015, a large convoy of our dedicated JMS technicians departed our company headquarters to do a slightly different job than home repair services– delivering 5,050 specially created story books and teddy bears to 12 area low-income schools.

Created especially for our anniversary by a local illustrator and writer, the children’s book features “Buddy, the Home Repair Bear” and tells a positive story that illustrates how, by helping others and doing a good job, each of us can be a hero in our own way. It also carries another favorite message of ours — that working in the home repair industry is valuable and rewarding work! With John Moore technicians and others on our staff handling the distribution, each elementary school child received a storybook and a little brown teddy bear that looks just like Buddy, the character in the story.

As a company, we wanted to support literacy in our community and beyond while doing something nice for kids that they can really enjoy at the same time. That’s how this event was created, and we couldn’t be happier with its success.
