Congratulations are in order for the outstanding showing of our St. Francis golf teams at the 2019 HJPC Golf Conference Championships this week! On Wednesday, the five-man boys’ team dominated on the Sharpstown Park course with a 25-shot victory over rivals including Kinkaid, River Oaks Baptist, St. John’s, and Annunciation. Eighth-grader Jaivir P. topped the leaderboard as first medalist by hitting a 65 for the day, with teammates Bradley O., Ford M., and Teddy L. close behind at 71, 73, and 74, respectively. Sixth-grader Gus M. entered the HJPC scene with an 83.
On Thursday, Hermann Park welcomed the girls’ championship event, where our very own Ava S., McKenna F., Morgan H., and Cayla P. drove home a third-place win. It was a memorable finish for our growing girls’ golf program in its first time at the tournament as a complete team.
Golf coach Ted Lakoski captured the spirit on the greens. “I am so proud of our teams’ awesome attitudes and excitement—and for playing their hearts out,” he said. “For our boys to defend their HJPC Championship title speaks to long hours on the green and true teamwork, while our girls’ incredible performance has them already talking about next year and their goal of hanging a championship banner at St. Francis!”
