Get to Know Our HFM Kid Ambassadors: Grace, Cailyn, Corey’L

By Kimberly Davis Guerra

Summer is coming to a close, and kids are heading back to school in a couple of weeks. We caught up with a few of our HFM Kid Ambassadors to check in with them and see what they are most excited about for the upcoming school year.

In case you don’t know about our Kid Ambassadors, they are a group of 24 amazing kids (ages 5-16), selected from a pool of over 500 candidates in 2018. 2019 is our pilot year for the Kid Ambassador program, and so far it has been AMAZING!

The Kid Ambassador program grew from our desire to develop our model search program into a more wide-ranging internship opportunity for interested kids. We wanted to provide an opportunity for local kids not only to gain modeling experience, but also to explore the greater Houston area while making new friends, serving our communities, and learning about what it takes to be a working journalist.

Here’s just a few things they are involved in:

  • Modeling for our HFM photoshoots
  • Acting as junior staff/reporters
  • Reviewing products, shows, and attractions
  • Submitting their own story ideas
  • Assisting editors with stories by submitting questions for subjects to answer
  • Attending events as HFM’s representatives
  • Assisting with social media
  • Volunteering at HFM events

Stay tuned to HFM every month for announcements on our 2020 HFM Kid Ambassador Search coming in October 2019!

I eat cereal every other morning and eggs with bacon every other morning!

If you could go to any college, which one would it be?
My college choice would be Texas A&M.

I volunteer at my church.

I tumble and act.

CAILYN BETZ, 7TH GRADE

Math, because it can prepare you for later in life.

Hanging out with good friends or finding a new friend, because they always have your back.

I have been in Girl Scouts for five years, and I love to go camping.

COREY’L SAMS, 10TH GRADE

Do you volunteer for any organizations?
I volunteer for HOPE Youth Corps, which is a part of a larger organization called HOPE Worldwide. 28 other volunteers and I stayed in different locations in Port Arthur and Cypress, Texas, working as counselors for a camp called Spark Academy. Spark Academy is a camp where kids who are still struggling from the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey can learn, build friendships, and have fun. Being at Spark Academy with Hope Youth Corps was an experience I will never forget!

What is your go-to breakfast in the morning?
I usually eat a bowl of organic cereal and I drink a green smoothie filled with different veggies and fruits to help me be focused and ready for the day ahead!

What extra-curricular activities are you involved in?
I am involved in Mock Trial and track at my school (Providence Classical School). Last year, I was the defendant for our Mock Trial case. Our team got runner-up at our regional competition! This past track season was great. I made it to state competition in the 400m run. Though I did not place in the state meet, I am ready to do even better and hopefully place in the state this year!

What is your favorite subject & why?
My favorite subject in school is Composition and Literature because I enjoy writing. This past year we had many different writing projects such as writing poems, short stories, speeches, and we even made our own magazines and newspapers! I can’t wait for all the writing projects I will get to do in 10th grade!
