Houston Family Magazine welcomed its 2020 Kid Ambassadors and bid farewell to its 2019 Ambassadors at its office for an epic group photo shoot at the beginning of January. Each month a Kid Ambassador will be spotlighted, so stay connected to find out from these amazing kids what’s trending, must-attend events, cultural happenings and so much more.
Meet Shelby Henry, Houston Family Magazine’s 2020 Kid Ambassador, The Artist and the Zookeeper
What are your favorite subjects in school?
I really enjoy art, math and reading. I learned how to draw and sketch a person, and I learned how to make a self- portrait with black paint on a colorful background.
What are some of the sports you enjoy doing?
Like most kids my age, I enjoy being outdoors, playing with my cousins and swimming. Capture the Flag in my school PE class gives me the perfect opportunity to have fun and run a lot. I also ski with my family, and even though I may fall I get right back up and ski some more. I am playing softball for the first time this year and I really enjoy it.
What’s are some of your favorite activities?
I like to play Roblox and Minecraft.
What are your favorite places to visit in the city?
Ice cream shops everywhere! Chinatown for Szechuan and of course, ice cream! I enjoy going to concerts, and going for pizza with my family.
If you could meet one famous person, who would it be?
Bregman, Altuve, or Reddick. Hopefully all 3 – it’s too difficult to decide.
What would you like to be when you grow up?
Either a zookeeper or an artist.
As a zookeeper I get to spend time with lots of animals and feed them. I want to keep track of them and let people look around while I watch and look after them. The cute sound of a Panda is what I like the best, it’s like a little squeak – it doesn’t sound like a brown or a black bear at all. I would love to take care of animals and swim with the dolphins too! But I could also be an artist since I like to sketch.
What are you the most afraid of?
Not having internet.
What superpowers do you have?
For my normal human superpower, I am super kind and helpful. For my imaginary super power I would pick teleporting and flying.
We definitely hope to see Shelby tap into her imaginary superpowers of teleporting and flying while she is a Houston Family Magazine Kid Ambassador.
About the HFM Kid Ambassador program
The mission of the program is to empower our Kid Ambassadors with new experiences, knowledge and friendships that will offer them the opportunity to grow as individuals. It is our hope that these experiences lead to possible career choices, improved scholastic resumes and relationships that last far beyond the end of the program.
