“Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.” Oprah Winfrey
Never truer words have been spoken.
At this time of year, I tend to reflect on the past year and all that has happened. I note this because I am typically not fond of looking back. In my experience, it is always better to focus on looking towards the future. My issue tends to be that I am so busy planning for the future, I forget to take in the moments along the way.
One of the ways that I have found to help keep myself more grounded in the present is to surround myself with intelligent, compassionate & interesting people. I find that in doing so, they challenge me to be the best version of myself that I can be. It is with this intention that I am bringing to Houston Family Magazine.
You may have noticed a shift in the look and feel of the magazine this year. It has been slow and steady and by design that these changes have been implemented to offer you more locally driven stories. Stories and people that affect the community we are raising our families in. Stories that can make a difference. I hope you are enjoying the transformation.
Not only are we changing the content and look of the magazine, we have changed the way that we distribute it to you. Did you know that along with being able to pick your copy up at a local HEB every month, you can also sign up for daily Enewsletters, download our free app and follow us on social media? HINT *** If you sign up for the Enewsletters & follow us on social media, we run most of our giveaways on those platforms!! Not to mention, you stay up-to-date on all the latest news, trends and tips from our team!
On top of changing the look, the content and the distribution, we are also adding to the products/services we offer. Starting in 2020, we added a 4th location to our annual Camp Fair event. Next year, you will be able to attend Camp Fair at Rice University! This is a great partnership that we have been working on for a while. We feel like the venue and location will offer a great environment for both camps and parents to get together and plan out next summer for the kids! Also, we will begin running our Houston Baby Magazine every quarter to provide even more timely info to new & expectant parents. This has been a wonderful resource for parents for many years and we are excited to develop more content for you!
All of this would not be possible without the team at HFM. Their devotion and pursuit of excellence cannot be appreciated enough. It is the blend of skills, experience, energy & enthusiasm that brings everything we do to life. I am extremely grateful for all that they do.
I am also grateful for all the clients and partners that support us through advertising & sponsorships. Being a free magazine is extremely tough these days, so without their support, we would not be able to do what we do.
I am grateful for you, the readers. Knowing that you love and rely on us to provide thoughtful editorial month in and month out, keeps us focused and driven to publish the best information we can. Thank you for allowing me to do a job that I’m passionate about in a city that I love for people that I admire. You make me happy to come to work every day.
Last, but never least, I am thankful to my family & friends. Your tireless support and encouragement means more to me than words can ever convey.
So, embrace your village, savor your moments and enjoy every day!
Humbly,
Kimberly Davis Guerra
